I haven’t written in months.
In the midst of the chaos and turmoil our world has been going through in the past few months, the words just didn’t seem to be there.
Whenever I tried to write something the words seemed hollow and preachy as I fumbled with them trying to express my sorrow at the injustices occurring all around us. In my attempt to grapple with the identity politics, and the truths and twisting of truths which has been occurring on all sides, I couldn’t seem to come up with the words to express my solidarity with those who have been experiencing racial injustice on the one hand, and those officers experiencing massive amounts of hate in the midst of trying to serve and protect our communities on the other.
In the end, all I could feel was a deep sense that I needed to be silent.
Over these past few months, a deeper desire and calling has reached me to listen and pray more. I joined a group of woman reading and meeting up once a week on zoom to discuss a book on praying with the Bible like Mary does. It has been such a blessing and confirmed even more the need for me to listen more and preach less.
One of the woman shared a Scripture verse that God has been speaking to her these past few months:
“Be still and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:11)
I couldn’t help feel that message being for me as well and wanted to share my reflection.
When there is injustice and hate, be still and know that I am God.
When there is violence and lack of justice, be still and know that I am God.
When there is oppression and racism, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is violence and destruction, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is sickness and death, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is misinformation and lack of clarity, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is isolation and despair, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is depression and poverty, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is division and enmity, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is corruption and thirst for power, be still and know that I am God.
Where there is fear and factions, be still and know that I am God.
When it seems like our world is falling apart and there is no hope, be still and know that I am God.
Trust in Him.
The world has been through many such trials, and even worse. We will get through these trials also.
